New Belgium Brewery announced officially yesterday what we had been hearing rumors of: they are building a brewery in the River Arts District! This is positive on so many levels.
First, since I live two blocks (roughly) from the site, I am thrilled that the dilapidated eyesore that was once the Livestock Market will be replaced with a state-of-the-art eco friendly facility that will likely include some greenway area.
Also, New Belgium will provide jobs in our area, and we always need employment opportunities! Asheville is starting to grow as an area of small industry, which is so much more appropriate for our topography and lifestyle than large industry. we are also attracting more and more environmentally friendly companies, and New Belgium is certainly a leader in eco-friendly.
Lastly, it is just cool! And I don't even like beer. I know, how is possible to live in Beer City and not like beer. Oh, well, let's just say I have a deep appreciation for beer crafting and for what it has done for Asheville.
