Asheville Ranked High for Second Homes
Asheville and surrounding areas have always been popular with the second home crowd. This doesn't just mean the wealthy, either.
When I was growing up in nearby Jackson County, I had "grandparents" (they weren't related, but they were old and we loved them) from Miami who spent the summers in a very modest little house in Sylva. It didn't have views; it wasn't secluded in the woods; it was just a little house in a neighborhood that gave them respite from the Miami summer. He was a retired postal worker of modest means, but they made it work.
In recent years more and more people have discovered the mild mountain summers and the lush beauty of our area as well as Asheville's artsy culture and great dining. Now many people have a second home or condo in the Asheville area to use year-round. They come from as close as nearby Atlanta or upstate South Carolina and from as far away as Canada and the West Coast.
Many are Baby Boomers planning to retire here and taking advantage of the housing recession to purchase now for the future!
According the Asheville Citizen-Times today, Asheville is ranked by Barron's financial magazine as the #15 resort area in the U.S. in which to find the best buy in today's luxury real estate market.
Barron's considerations include beauty, comfort, convenience, a range of lifestyles and value. These attibutes are applicable to ANY price range or type of home!
The list also takes into account that "home prices have hit bottom and are either rising or expected to rise."
Now is the time to buy, whether it is your second home or your primary residence!
