Asheville, NC: Girlfriend Getaway!
I just saw Frommers list of top 'Girlfriend Getaways" for 2011. It is a great list: check it out by clicking here.
But I would add Asheville to the list!
Ok, so you and 3 or 4 of your best gal pals want to get away for a few days. Think about this trip:
If you are in the Southeast, Asheville is an easy drive. Otherwise, our little airport has some direct flights and connects out of Charlotte or Atlanta from anywhere!
You arrive in Asheville and check in to your historic Bed and Breakfast. After getting settled, you head downtown to eat dinner at one of our fabulous local restaurants. Then you stroll around downtown, and in the warmer seasons will likely catch a street performer or the drum circle. Then it is time to take in some music at a pub like Jack of the Wood or maybe a bigger venue like the Orange Peel.
Exhausted but exhilarated, you crash back at the inn for a good night's sleep. After your yummy breakfast served by your friendly hosts, you decide for a mellow day and head out to the North Carolina Arboretum. Knowing that miles of hiking trails surround the Arboretum in the Bent Creek Experimental Forest (all this is just off the Blue Ridge Parkway), you take your hiking boots, water, and GORP along.
After flowers and hiking, you take a short drive south on the Blue Ridge Parkway for dinner at the Pisgah Inn. Now that is a glorious day!
The next day, you decide to hit Biltmore Estate. If you haven't been there before, one day will only be a teaser. House, gardens, winery, and special tours. A long and tiring day that is to be rewarded with relaxing in the rocking chairs on the front porch of your B&B before another winning Asheville dinner.
There is so much more to do here that you'll plan a return trip every year because this time you didn't get to:
- The Southern Highland Craft Guild and Folk Art Center
- The River Arts District
- 12 Bones Barbecue
- Mountain Biking
- Kayaking
- Whitewater Rafting
- Shopping
- More dining
- More hiking
- More music
Then, you suddenly realize that if you just moved here, you could do this stuff ALL THE TIME. And you call me. Or go to my website: www.AtHomeInAsheville.com
